WHAT WE DO

The  Office of General Counsel (OGC) for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) provides legal advice and representation to USU in every area of law except personal legal representation or for criminal matters, which are handled by the Brigade Judge Advocate General (JAG) for military and Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) issues, or the U.S. Attorney’s Office for civilian and criminal matters. OGC communicates and provides clear and timely advice for our clients that is consistent with law, regulation and policy. OGC attorneys and staff specialize in a wide range of legal topics and services which include, but are not limited to the following general areas: Academics, Business Law, Fiscal Law, Information Law, Facilities, Facilities, Ethics, Legislation, Representation, Research, Technology Transfer, and Academics. We are available for in-person consultation and welcome the opportunity to resolve issues as they arise.

Brigade Judge Advocate General (JAG) provides legal support to the USU Brigade Commander and all military members billeted at USU. For all active duty military employees billeted at USU, the USU JAG can provide guidance on ethics matters such as Outside Activity Requests, Fundraising, foreign travel, and Student Promotions Committee advising. Legal services are available to active duty, retirees, and dependents.

LEGAL ASSISTANCE

Personal legal assistance services are available to USU active duty service members, dependents, and retirees through the Brigade Judge Advocate. The legal assistance resources available on the OGC site are available to the USU community and public but do not constitute the provision of legal services through the Office of General Counsel.
